Diana Lopez Diana has been hula hooping and teaching fitness for the past 10 years. Previously an elementary school teacher, she integrated hula hooping fitness everyday into the curriculum first thing in the morning, and over time, observed the students to develop more coordination, balance, confidence. The students were also more receptive to learning after a short session of hooping. This encouraged Diana to take hula hooping out into the world to share the benefits of hula hooping with adults and youth. She created Bodyhoops in 2001, and the BodyHoops Fitness Program soon after, for teachers wanting to integrate hula hooping into their daily fitness programs. She has since been traveling the world far and near to spas, schools and fitness centers teaching the benefits of hula hooping for fun and for fitness.
A California native, Diana is an alumni of the California State University of Northridge with a B.A. in Child Development. Diana has certifications as Certified Group Fitness Instructor with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), and the American Council on Exercise (ACE), and she currently holds specialty certificates in Zumba and Yoga and is actively involved with teaching fitness everyday. Julia Hartsell
Julia Hartsell (aka Jewels or Julahoop) has been developing her hoop dance, craft, performance and teaching techniques for both children and adults since 2001. Upon first meeting an “adult hoop”, Julia was entranced by the circular, meditative quality of the movement and began hooping everyday. For her, hooping has become a holistic practice for creative expression, meditation, fun, fitness, mental and emotional well-being and even community building. She believes hooping is a revolutionary mysticism with its potential for opening individuals to states of bliss, revelation, insight, healing and transformation through rhythmic meditation within the circle, a symbol of wholeness and unity. Julia performs and teaches hoop dance to individuals of all ages at arts organizations, schools, yoga studios, after-school & summer programs, music festivals, universities, community events, seniors’ and wellness centers. She spearheads the annual Hoop Convergence, an international gather of hoopers. Julia also combines her art with activism, sharing the hoop with people of all ages locally and abroad. Sharna Rose "Sharna Rose discovered the joy of hoop dance in February 2006. Immediately her life changed and her once heavy weighty soul started to lighten. Swiftly she changed from a depressed and overweight caterpiller into a beautiful self confident butterfly spreading her wings and glittering as she took flight in the light. Hula hoop dance gave her purpose where there was none before. It gave her passion and a great excuse to explore and share her creativity with a welcoming community of like minded beings. Sharna’s hoop strengths lie in her adaptability and her willingness to embrace her immediate feelings. This very childlike quality enables her to make the most of her mistakes and even turn them to her advantage. She has been teaching Hoop dance to all ages in the UK for the past 3 years at various festivals and cities. Many have commented upon her lively and uplifting teaching style and have expressed gratitude having experienced it. She has posted 100’s of video’s online which document her progress with the hoop and taught many hoopers along the way. You will benefit enormously from the time that she has spent religiously exploring the multitude of dynamics offered from single, multi, mini, fire and led hoops."
Dizzy Hips World Record Hooper
Dizzy met his first love -the hula-hoop- in kindergarten, along with three of his other favorite sports: jump roping, soccer, and finger painting (usually in his case it was "foot painting", which was perhaps the reason he flunked kindergarten).
Paul was re-born as a hooper when he found a pink and white hoop as a freshman in college. He immediately became obsessed. He hooped at his work as a weight trainer, at his dance classes (Orissi, Mexican Folkloric and modern), and at his soccer practice. After college he moved to Colorado where he honed his skills, created his first comedy / spectacle hoop act, made "The String Cheese Incident" their first 5 hoops, and began teaching hoop classes. He has literally taught tens of thousands of people to hoop all over the world.
